Take your New Master Bedroom from Drab to Fab

4 Ways to Boost your Master Bedroom

Published - February 22nd 2018 2 minute read.

Now that you are happy and living in your own house, it is time to not simply have ownership of it, but to take ownership of it and make it your very own. A house takes some work to make it your castle and the master bedroom is a great place to start.

Consider Creating a Space

It may sound obvious or as if it is already done, but there is a difference between creating a space and having a space. The master bedroom is your place to sleep, unwind, decompress, and relax. It is the place in your house where you go to find some peace and quiet and where, at the end of a long day, you know you can find solace and a pause.

Cultivate your master bedroom that makes you feel that way when you go in. Add in some houseplants, buy luxurious linens, decorate the room with works by your favourite artist, or head to the thrift store to find some unique, vintage décor. Think about how you want to feel when you are in your bedroom and the atmosphere you want to create, and then get to work on making it happen!

Consider the Lighting

It is important to have a source of natural light in your room. It boosts mood, helps regulate your body's circadian rhythm, fosters better sleep, and makes the room look brighter and more lived in. But be aware of how much light you have coming in: you also need to be able to create an optimal level of darkness, which is equally as important for good sleep and mood regulation.

Consider your Colour Choices

With the dreary state of winter lasting more than just a few weeks in the Collingwood area, it can be nice to have a break from all the grey skies and white lawns! Adding colour to a room is an instant way to boost mood and change the room's energy. Something as simple as an accent wall can have a big impact on how you feel when you are in the room, and in turn how this mood is carried throughout the rest of your day. Do some research into how colour can influence state of mind, and find out which colour would suit you best. And then head to the store, grab some paint and get to work!

Consider a Clutter Free Zone

Or more accurately, consider how you can de-clutter. Increasing research (and popularity) behind the idea of tidying up, is showing how decluttering our space can be good for our mental and physical health, improve mood and boost energy. Not to mention, having less stuff, and buying less stuff means more money in your pocket — and as a new homeowner, you probably won't be complaining about that!

Of course, boosting up your master bedroom starts with having the right bedroom to boost — with lots of Collingwood real estate and South Georgian Bay homes available that offer great choices to turn any space into your own best space.
