Selling in the Winter or Selling in the Spring

Selling in the Winter vs Waiting for the Spring

Published - January 7th 2019 2 minute read.

After a certain point, the walls of a house can feel like they are closing in on us. Waking up in the same room for 10, 20 or 30 years can feel like a jail sentence after a while. One of the best ways that a homeowner can combat this is by buying a new home and switching up their scenery.

This can help the homeowner create a new routine and meet new neighbours. However, before this can be done, a homeowner needs to sell their current home.

When selling a home, it is important to take a season into account. Many homeowners jump at the opportunity to sell their house in the summer or fall; however, it is never wise to ignore the spring or winter seasons. This is due to the fact that these seasons have numerous benefits that they can offer.

Selling your House in the Winter

There are a number of reasons that homeowners will sell their houses in the winter. One of the primary reasons is that there is less competition. Inexperienced homeowners will often worry that they will not be able to attract potential buyers in the colder months. However, a seasoned homeowner knows that they are actually able to reach a large amount of possible customers; this is due to the fact that there are less options on the real estate market.

The only downside to selling a home in the winter is that it requires a large amount of work to maintain curb appeal. There are a number of obvious tasks such as shovelling the driveway and removing icicles. However, homeowners can also get creative by changing their house numbers, adding lighting fixtures or giving the mailbox an upgrade.

Selling Your House in the Spring

There is no limit to the benefits of selling a home in the spring. Any homeowners that live near ski resorts such as Collingwood and the Blue Mountains, or other snowy activities can greatly benefit from selling their home in the spring. This is due to the fact that these communities will not be overcrowded and that potential customers will not be preoccupied with their winter activities.

One of the obvious benefits to selling a home in the spring is that the weather is easier to deal with. The lack of snow and cold weather puts buyers in a good mood and allows them to hit multiple houses in a single day. Although it depends on the exact location of the house, generally, the days are longer in the spring than they are in winter. This means that bright, natural light can flow through a home for a longer period of time.

Homeowners should always remember that even through spring can bring sunshine, it can also bring loads of rain. Remember to clean up the front yard and walkways to minimize the chances of water or mud entering the home.
